Would you like to be an important part of space exploration history? Do you dream of suiting up for a walk on the moon or hanging out at the International Space Station? Well, you might not be able to personally be there, but you could make an impact for those people who will be on board!

NASA recently launched its Space Rock Contest where the public can choose what song the astronauts will wake up to during a future mission. Traditionally, family and friends of the astronauts chose what the wake up songs would be, but this time people are allowed to vote!

There are 2 aspects to this contest:

1) The public can vote for their favorite song from a list of top 40 previous played shuttle tunes. The top 2 songs with the most votes will be played on board to wake up the astronauts during Discovery's STS-133 mission scheduled to launch on November 1, 2010. Votes can be cast now through the launch date.

2) In addition, the public can submit original songs with a "space theme" for consideration of the Endeavour's STS-134 mission scheduled for February 26, 2011. A NASA panel will screen all original song applications and submissions are due by 4pm on January 10, 2011. Top entries will then be posted on the website for the public to vote on starting February 8, 2011.

Get ready to send the astronauts back to space with some out of this world tunes! (Okay, you know I couldn't resist...)

Do you have a little artist living in your home? Do you catch your kiddos doodling on their notebooks or <ahem> some other unauthorized place like the wall or table? Now you can help your child put those drawing talents to good use with the Lands' End "Every Tee Tells a Story" contest!

In celebration of back to school season, children ages 4 to 11 can submit original artwork based on the contest theme, "Arctic Exploration". With this "chilly" theme, the creative juices can flow with pictures of polar bears, penguins, or other arctic images. Entries will be accepted starting July 28th through September 7th. Each entry must be submitted on an official entry form that can be found here and postmarked by September 7th.

Two winners will be selected to feature their drawings on the Lands' End Graphic Tee collection that will be available to purchase! Winners will receive a $500 Lands' End Gift Card and in addition, Lands' End will make a $1,000 donation to the contest winners' school art programs. On September 15th, the winners will be notified.

So, if you are struggling to keep your kids busy this summer, this is the perfect art project. Who knows? Maybe your child's picture will be worn by other kids all over the world!
